North Park x San Diego, CA
The first rule about Hess North Park is, you don’t Tweet about Hess North Park… or check in for that matter, am I right Facebook? Why? Because it is misleading, very misleading causing the internet to go nuts (more so) with folks losing their minds thinking they missed the Grand Opening of one of their favorite local breweries’ newest location. Well. Fear not “Fanati Hess” (That’s “Hess Fans” in Latin) you are not late, the opening is nigh!
Last Saturday Craft Beer Tasters, along with 36 other Hess Superfans, attended a super secret invite only tour of Hess’ North Park facility. Normally this isn’t the kind of thing we’d be into. Say what?!? Don’t get me wrong. This was an honor to be named a/and be in the company of Superfans, additionally, it’s cool to be a part of anything secret, but it is also exclusive meaning it excludes people. But hey, we aren’t ones to pass up a scoop, plus La Familia Hess are good people, plus they said there’d be growlers. We were in. In for the greater good. In for you… For science!
We rolled over to Grimm Ave. in North Park, walked down North Park Way and made our way down the alley to the still under constriction soon to be home of Mike Hess Brewing Company where we were greeted by social media ninja Jessica McKean. Within minutes The Whole Brew Crew came up from the basement and Hess Fan after Hess Fan quickly trickled in, many wearing Hess branded clothing and holding their favorite Hess glassware. After a bit of mingling and imbibing, Founder Mike Hess stood atop an all-purpose bucket and addressed us all. He shared his thanks, shared with us some safety rules, and shared with us the opening date of Mike Hess Brewing Co. North Park!

In his words: “Soon.”
There you have it, Tasters, SOON!
Seriously that’s great news. As you may know we have been covering the progrHess in North Park quite regularly. Mostly because there has been a great deal of progress to report. On this day we were given a virtual tour of the tasting room, the canning line, and the grain silo. We were, however, given an actual tour of the brewhouse! Yes the brewhouse is almost up and running. Nate Sampson, who left Rogue and joined team Hess in 2012 as Head Brewer, told me he couldn’t wait to brew on Hess’ brand new system and bring more Hess beers to the world.
A tasting room, a brewhouse that is exponentially larger than their current system, a canning line. This is going to be Major. “Soon” won’t come soon enough!
Cheers my dears!
